Art as requiem, prayers on banners
Exhibit by 10 artists from Hiroshima and NY.

An exhibition by artists from Hiroshima and America, entitled "0x0, Hiroshima x New York", opened on the 31st of July at Gallery G, located in Haccho-bori, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. The exhibit establishes a connection between Hiroshima, victim of an atomic bombing, and New York, the site of a terrorist attack.

Five artists from Hiroshima are participating, including Kitada Katsumi, professor of art from Hiroshima City University, as well as five from New York City, including Senju Hiroshi, who is active internationally.

The ten artists created works on the type of silk normally used for nihonga painting, in long banners 70cm wide and 5.5 meters long. The works show images of women or children to express the dignity of life.

The silk pieces are suspended from the ceiling but join together near the floor of the gallery, depicting dialog and mutual understanding.

Kitada, one of the organizers, said, "I hope this exhibition can send a message, as two cities with a similar wound meet."

The show is open until the 19th of August. A symposium
was held at 5 P.M. on August 4th at the gallery.
