"Language"
The theme I dealt with in the “Language” series of paintings was the state of children in the world, of what dire, poverty-stricken days they are living in.Thematically I have shown how the children are living in inhuman conditions and utter affliction, deprived of love and compassion. I tried to depict the true picture of the children seen from my childhood days to the present day. Some of the emotional and heart rending situations and problems touched me a lot while working in this series. In order to project the children’s issues found in our contemporary world, I reflected on various socio-political conditions including war, child labour, slavery, rude and inhuman behaviour and repression, racism, issues of environmental imbalance and various diseases that affected them totally. All these factual social states of children of depravity rekindled in me a new passion and feeling to transmute these issues into paintings.
The facial expression is my prime interest in human beings. I tried to express the emotions of human nature through faces, their sorrow, happiness, melancholy, morbidity, and laughter etc. All the faces of the children don’t depict any particular child but I tried to make them universal and impersonal.
In all my paintings, round and curvy dot-like shapes of background are my special trait and style. These dot-like shapes symbolize the air and environmental pollution. This symbol is derived from my own imaginative mind which is nevertheless my own psyche.
These round dotty shapes or bubble like forms spread, out all over the background, were my imaginary aesthetics, projecting the imbalance of nature. On the other hand this symbol reflects the good future for the children, for a beautiful habitat, non-polluted environment and overall to create a secure livelihood for the children. It may also be mentioned these round mobile forms become my symbol of protest in my all works.
「言葉」
私の作品「言葉」シリーズは、世界中の子供たちが今生きている貧困の日々や悲惨な状態をテーマとしました。主たる問題として、子どもたちが非人道的で苦悩でうめく状態、愛情や思いやりを奪われた中でいかに生きているかを表現しています。私は子どもの頃から今日に至までに見て来た子どもたちの本当の姿を描写しようと努めました。このシリーズの制作中には、感情的に心を引き裂くような状況や問題に心をかき乱されたこともあります。現代世界に起っている子どもたちの問題を提議するために、私は戦争や児童労働、奴隷制度、野蛮で非人道的な行為や抑圧、人種差別、不安定な環境問題、子どもたちを冒す色々な病気などを様々な社会政治的な状況を示しました。子どもたちがこのような腐敗した状況にいるという現実は、私に再び新しい情熱をかき立て、これらの問題を絵にするという気持ちをおこさせました。
顔の表情というのは私が人に対して最も興味を持つところです。顔を通して人間の感情、悲しみや喜び、哀愁、病的状態、笑いなどを表現しました。一般的な非人格的な顔にしていますが、どの顔も特別な子どもを描いたわけではありません。
私の全ての作品において、背景にある丸い水玉模様のような形は私独自の特徴とスタイルです。この水玉模様のような形は空気と環境汚染の象徴です。この象徴は、私の想像からできたものですが、私の精神です。
背景いっぱいにはじけた丸い水玉模様の泡のような形は、私の想像の美学であり、自然の不安定な状態の現れです。一方、この象徴は子どもたちや、美しい自然環境、汚染のない環境、子どもたちが安全に暮らしていくための全てにおいて、明るい未来を示します。また、この丸いあちこちにちらばった形は、私の全ての作品において、主張のシンボルになると言えるかもしれません。
